Transportation Maintenance and Expansion

Having lived in multiple cities across the 32nd Legislative District for 40 years, I have a personal understanding of our community’s transportation needs and the importance of maintaining the infrastructure that keeps our cities moving.

Throughout my career, I have worked to expand reliable transportation options, including helping bring four light rail stations to the district in Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, and Lynnwood, while also advocating for Metro bus service through the SeaShore Transportation Forum and King County Regional Transit Forum.

As a State Representative, I have been a fierce transit advocate on the House Transportation Committee and throughout my membership on the Joint Transportation Committee, supporting expanded service in Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, and Lynnwood, the restoration of Community Transit’s Sunday service, and investments like Business Access and Transit (BAT) lanes. As a transit rider myself, I understand the importance of a system that works for the people who rely on it every day.

That’s why I have consistently introduced and passed legislation to ensure our roads, bridges, and transportation systems are properly maintained while creating well-paying union jobs for the workers who build and maintain them. I have fought to ensure these workers have access to apprenticeship opportunities, family-wages, and the protections they deserve

I have always believed the best transportation policies are crafted by the people who use and operate these systems every day. I have consistently partnered with transportation experts, advocates, constituents, and workers to make sure our investments meet the real needs of our communities.

Early in my political career as City Council Member and Mayor of Shoreline, I helped improve and finish all three projects/miles of Aurora Avenue. Now, we must make sure Aurora Avenue in North Seattle is better for motorists, transit riders, pedestrians, and bicyclists, while improving public safety for the neighborhoods and local businesses along this significant state route.
